The Choice is Yours

Writer's picture: ErikahErikah

As I took my morning stroll, thanking God for all the beauty, His beauty around me, I came upon an unkempt house. As I silently judged in my mind of how unkept the property was from the back to the front with overgrown trees, uncut and verdant lawn, hedges needing trim treatment, and so on. I stated to myself, Just like their home is unkempt, I can't imagine what it looks like on the inside. As I nearly finished scanning their yard and house and silently judging, my mind quickly reverted to my life and my choices and how unkept I have been. No doubt, the Holy Spirit was checking me and my judgmental attitude. I quickly realized that this life we live is a choice to trust, rely on, depend on, and seek God daily or keep living as if He was nonexistent. You and I have an option to chose life or choose death, and what is the harm in choosing salvation, Christ? Hmmm, maybe blessings untold and unheard of because these are my blessings destined for me in the first place. All I have to do is choose Him, and once I do, ask Him.

This other voice in my head is saying, okay, life is hard. Do your choices need to be based on what God would do because what's the fun in that? To those voices, my rebuttal is simply this. Life is hard regardless because it's fallen. Everyone will go through trials and tribulations. The difference is who is standing on your side to walk with you and comfort you, in front of you to shield you from new hurts and threats, and behind you to protect you and push you in the direction you need to go. JESUS is the difference! He will never leave me or forsake me! He has plans for me! He has blessings for me if only I ask for them. As a believer, one of my main jobs is to ask for what I want, and need and God's job is to grant, delay, or deny. I'm gravy on my end; trust me, I know how to hold up my end of the bargain. God, I need it, or God, I want it. You have it, and I'm asking-DONE!

Before you turn your nose up at other people, their choices and lifestyle, like my grandmother used to say, sweep around your front door and review your unkept life before you take a broom to mine.

Good reading never hurts:

Jeremiah 33:3, Deuteronomy 31:6 & 8, Hebrews 13:5-6

Living in, on, and for purpose, are you?
